How to play this music quiz
Guessto's daily music quiz is built for people who search for a way to play songless online without leaving the page. You hear a short preview of a real track, then try to name both the artist and the song title. There is no separate download step and no account wall: open /play, tap play, and start guessing. The round is the same every day for everyone in UTC, so friends can compare results after they finish.
You get six guesses. Each failed guess (or skip) unlocks a longer clip from the same preview. The ladder is fixed: 0.5 seconds, then 1, 2, 4, 8, and finally 16 seconds. That progression is the heart of the challenge. Early clips are barely more than a drum hit or a breath of melody; later clips give you structure, hooks, and enough contour to confirm a hunch. Using all six guesses without a correct answer reveals the track anyway, so you always learn what you missed.
Why clips grow instead of restarting
Growing clips keep the same starting point while extending how much you hear. That means information compounds: anything you noticed at 0.5s is still there at 4s, plus more. Players who listen carefully early often need fewer guesses later. Players who mash skip race to the long clips and burn attempts. Either style is valid; the state machine only cares that artist and title are both selected from the candidate lists before a guess counts. Typing free text that never matches a library entry will not spend a turn — you must lock both fields from the dropdowns.
Audio comes from short Deezer preview URLs. Guessto stores catalog metadata in an offline-built library; it does not download or host mp3 files on this domain. If a signed preview expires, the player refreshes it and does not charge you a guess. Cover art is hotlinked on reveal after you win or exhaust attempts. The daily puzzle is keyed by puzzleNumber and seed so everyone on the same UTC day shares one track.
Daily progress, sharing, and unlimited
Daily progress saves in your browser under a date key so refreshing the page does not wipe a half-finished round. When you finish, the reveal shows artwork, title, artist, year, how many tries you used, and a simple square share graphic you can copy. Unlimited mode lives at /play/unlimited for people hunting songless unlimited style sessions. It reuses the same components, skips localStorage, and jumps to the next track after a reveal. Optional query filters such as ?genre=rock&decade=90s narrow the pool when you want a theme night.
Looking for answer archives or written rules for other titles? Those stay on the existing game hubs — for example Songless how-to and answer pages under /games/songless/how-to-play and /games/songless/answers. This play surface intentionally targets playability queries only, so it does not compete with those informational URLs. Guessto remains an independent fan-made music quiz: useful when you want a complete round in the browser, honest about what it is not, and careful with media by hotlinking short previews instead of mirroring catalogs.
